But I’ll admit, I always laughed it off because we can say that but nobody really knows what’s happening.

Their pap photos are much better received by the general public and have comments shipping them and wishing they were together instead. Yikes!! Also…they actually do look good together. They fit.

Btw, I don’t think 🐟 is jealous of Dakota because of Chris. TBH, I don’t think she’s into her “husband” at all. From her actions, she doesn’t care about him or his well being. She cares about what his name can do for her. That’s it. And right now his name is being lumped with Dakota and not hers and I think it’s pissing her off. She needs to get those cheap outfits comped one way or another and her Liberia film isn’t cutting it. Miumiu not calling her back and nobody wants to see her in a solo pap walk….so.

Sidenote: I like to think CE is putting on a bigger effort to look like he likes Dakota because Celine song is directing this film and he wants to do well for her. And also, he seems to simply just like Dakota. She’s pretty hilarious in her own right when she’s not being a flat actress 🤣 and maybe…just maybe, he wants to show you all whose watching that he does know how to act like he’s in love with someone. He just didn’t want to the last time he was in that park.

Yep, she doesn't care about him (and I don't think he cares about her). It's all about using his name to be mentioned in some gossip magazines. Otherwise these magazines wouldn't talk about her. And even the Portuguese magazines have to mention him when they talk about her. The Portuguese people don't care about her. I'm not even sure if they know her name.

Okay I'm finally sitting down to properly watch the PJO series so here's an episode-by-episode live blog I guess. (Fair warning, I haven't read the books since I was a teenager, I am a smidge of an apologist for the films, and my favorite adaptation so far has been the musical.)

Episode One:

All of the actors are doing a really good job, I especially like Sally.

The costume design for both the monsters and the humans is pretty killer. I want Percy's sweater.

I also love the little seaside cabin and want to live there!!!

This is such a mild gripe BUT as someone with dyslexia I wish there was a better way to visually depict it without like, doing the swapping letters thing cuz that's just not what it's actually like at all.

Gabe maybe feels a little too funny. Like I'm supposed to hate him and think it's justified that he deserves to be turned into stone at the end, this version of him is really.....toned down, and his banter with Percy and Sally was fun to watch. I should hate him, but really he just came across as unpleasant. Less abusive asshole and more "old married couple who share interests but can't communicate without shouting" you know?

Loved Grover's little "I'm 24 actually" lmao that was great.

Not a fan of Percy immediately recognizing the Minotaur within a millisecond of it appearing before the audience even got a good look at it. Like, I just sat there thinking "how can he even see it?" rather than feeling scared of a big monster barreling at them.

The action is uh....fine? Feels a little lackluster. Or kinda....divorced from the rest of the show weirdly?? Idk it makes me feel like I'm watching a movie of a movie if that makes sense?? But we'll see where they go with it. (I know banter during a fight isn't realistic and people make fun of Marvel for it, but like...it helps to have at least a little talking. We don't wanna be Man of Steel.)

I feel like there's been a few "slightly out of sync ADR" moments but they weren't too distracting.

Pacing into Sally saying goodbye felt a little long, kinda took the shock of her dying out of the scene, but the actress REALLY sold all the emotional beats so I'll forgive it.

I LOVE the credits sequence!!! Reminds me of the designs on that one box set of the books in a really cool way.

Episode Two:

Rumor tracking anon here - I don't have *that* article but I do have one from Vanity Fair about the 2017 BAFTAs (and Kate's first time accompanying William). I bookmarked the article because there's a line about Meghan in that is so wildly out of place that it made me verrrry suspicious about her:

We have high hopes for Kate and William’s (oh yeah, William is there, too, in a tux) night at the BAFTAs. Will they recreate the La La Land poster pose alongside Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling? Will Kate reference Meghan Markle in overheard conversation (“My future sister-in-law is an actress, as you may or may not have heard, so . . .”)? And will Meryl Streep and Kate Middleton pose together, enabling a flood of “one royal meeting another” captions to be posted on Twitter?

In the grand scheme of things, Meghan in February 2017 was *not* important enough to be worthy of this kind of throwaway comment in the same breath as all those people. So then why would Vanity Fair do this? Always rubbed me the wrong way. But now, hindsight being 20/20, it tells us a lot.

I'm fairly certain that this is around when Sunshine Sachs and Vanity Fair were negotiating Meghan's cover because it's the first time her name was dropped with all these A-List celebs. I do think it's part of "everyone loves classy" but it's such a random throwaway it slipped under the radar. (And specifically my gut is telling me that the "my future sister-in-law" part was Meghan or Sunshine fishing for an invite to Pippa's wedding among other A-list freebies.)

Plus Harry and Meghan had only been dating for 6 months at this point and 90% of that was long distance.

There were a ton of articles around this time about Meghan and Catherine. Many of which were about how Meghan would be much more suited to the role of Duchess or even Queen than Catherine ever would.

So this was also right around the time that the rumors on Tumblr started that Harry & Meghan had split up after she had been escorted out of the UK a few weeks prior. The rumors were that she took photos of the Wales kids and was caught. Charles had her escorted out of KP and to the airport sometime in December or early January. It is said that Harry dumped her because she wasn't worth the drama she was causing with his family. Later when she flew out to Skippy's wedding, which she is said to have been given a passing casual verbal invitation at a house party, and then she and Harry slightly reconciled but she was still chasing after him to get his attention back. They fought a ton on that trip apparently. Which proves true from the beach photos that were taken. It was right after this she shut down her blog and IG and claimed she quit Suits for Harry.

As far as wisdom goes, I don’t think I have any, I’m still star struck by my experience last year… I guess best advice I can give is just to enjoy it and to try and not humble himself too much, he deserves it, he should own up to it.

Hiii 👋 I just wanted to say I’ve been a fan of your blog since the good ole Downton Days and I’m so chuffed you’re a ACGAS fan too! Tbf right now the fandom is super down in the dumps (me included). How are you remaining so positive since Audrey x Gerald development in the Christmas Special?

Hi Anon! Thanks for your message, and happy holidays! So nice to hear from our old Downton Abbey crew again, I think a lot of us migrated here.

To be honest, there are a few reasons I’m not worried. (Sorry, it’s long).

1) Because I honestly love Siegfried and Audrey as friends and surrogate family. Their bond is special and beautiful, whether or not it ever becomes romantic. (Although I hope it does). They are life partners, involved in all the most important parts of each other’s lives. They have coparented Tristan (and James and Jess), they’re each other’s confidant and source of comfort. That’s special in and of itself.

2) Because I actually think they’re playing the (really, really) long game with them. I could be wrong, but that seems to be what the writers are doing. It seems quite intentional. 3 years on screen together may seem a while for some, and I suppose she’s been his housekeeper for around 7 years so it feels like ages. But imo, the best slow burns imo are the ones where you’re never quite sure if they will or won’t. It’s the little crumbs they leave scattered here and there, it’s the longing looks and angsty build up that makes it so delicious tbh. I just hope they get renewed for enough seasons to see it through. (Plus I am a Carson & Mrs Hughes fan, so 3 seasons doesn’t feel that long! Lol)

3) And lastly, because I don’t actually think they’re ready to be together yet. They’re still in the process of getting there.

Siegfried has probably had to longest way to go, in terms of being emotionally ready to realise, admit and accept that he has feelings for his housekeeper. In Season 1, he opened himself up to intimacy and the possibility of love again. He did that with Dorothy and then Diana, (although who knows why she’s been such a non-entity this last season. Maybe the actress wasn’t available?) And now, at the end of S3, he literally just resolved one of his biggest character arcs - his complex relationship and feelings for Tristan (and even then, only with a lot of encouragement and support from Audrey). He’s emotionally levelled up.

Now, I think it’s Audrey’s turn. Gerald befriending her/ pursuing her has allowed her to imagine she could be with someone again, after leaving her husband. It helps her relationship with Edward is also on the mend, since that’s been a source of so much guilt and pain for her. As for her feelings toward Gerald, they do seem to have deepened somewhat suddenly. I know some people said it felt very out of blue considering she had friendzoned him. But maybe she liked him all along and simply didn’t feel she could be more than friends, much as she wanted to. Or maybe it was brought on by the war, and him moving away. Either way, I think he’s a good man, simple and uncomplicated, which is just what she needs as she’s testing the waters of romance again. I think he’s also serving as a catalyst for Siegfried to realise the depth of his feelings for Audrey, which is v exciting imo.

Siegfried is also a good man, but things with him are as ever, more complicated. Their status as employer and employee, and long time friends also raises the stakes a lot more. Considering she’s a lot more self-aware, I think Mrs Hall knows she might have certain feelings for Siegfried (seemed a bit disapproving / jealous of his relationships) but I don’t think she has considered it could go anywhere. I feel that this budding relationship with Gerald will be pivotal in a shift between them. It might motivate her to get her divorce from Mr Hall, and resolve that source of pain from her past, too.

TL;DR All that said, I think they’re getting where to need to be, and I think we should enjoy the journey. It’ll be all the more sweet if and when it happens.

Hey Lia! Here are some headcanons from the Ask Game:

Max definitely has a crazy bucket list and he does like, a variety of extreme sports, like rock-climbing and parkour and other cool stuff.

I'd like to think Sienna would have a huge back garden of sorts in their home, or at least a garden where she gets to do gardening and make delicious treats from the fruits and veggies she grows.

Cassie might've been a child actress of sorts? Maybe for commercials or obscure short films before she got into ballet. Maybe she and Max got up to some mischief on set.

I feel like Ethan is the type of person who'd have the cleanest desk possible but at the same time, have the messiest drawers (?) Ik ik it's a bit strange but he'd have all of these small knick-knacks and even if he doesn't believe in luck or fortune, he kind of likes to have things around to fiddle with them.

Max is definitely all that and more. He's all about experiences. He doesn't consider it a bucket list but more just living his life to the full. He's gone sky diving several times, tried BASE jumping, taken a Zero G flight, driven a F1 car at max speed.... Sienna asked him to slow down when he got injured during a jump after they had kids.

Max and Sienna have a penthouse apartment, so no backyard garden. But they eventually took over the whole floor and she planted a rooftop garden on one side of their second floor. No vegetables, but she planted herbs. Her in-laws have a huge garden and she and Max take the kids there often. Her mother-in-law also shared gardening tips with Sienna and they bonded even more over gardening stuff.

Cassie was not an actress. They moved around a lot as children, so she was lucky to at least continue her ballet training. However, her Mom has a charity/foundation and Cassie and Max are required to model for the calendar and other promotional materials annually. It's been happening since they were kids, so she does model.

Absolutely agree on Ethan. We know from Book 1, Ch 4 that Ethan keeps stress balls on his desk (he thought it would work for a baby gift 🤦🏻‍♀️). I hc that he often gets those and other promotional gifts from pharma/insurance reps and just dumps them in his drawer.

Hi everyone! I'm back again to update the blog. I know it's been quite some time since I've last posted. I actually fell sick this week and I was down with tonsilitis. Luckily, I was able to get ahold of some good medication and good rest this week and I'm feeling much better now!

I also wanted to mention that I missed last Tuesday's cinematography workshop because of the tonsilitis. What to do? I bet I would've enjoyed it if I was fit enough to attend.

Moving on, stage 2 presentations are coming up next Tuesday. So, I need to start my research immediately! I have to do research into the character arcs of Solomon, Patsey, and Epps.

This will take some time since I will have to read through quite a lot of articles and character analyses of these 3 characters. For now, I'm going to add a couple of links to articles that I find useful for the research!

Any favorite shows or films?: I've enjoyed a bunch of films and shows, but nothing beats 8 Below, 3 Idiots, The Lion King, Anastasia, the Adam Project, A Silent Voice, Percy Jackson & the Olympians, Heartstopper, Mystreet, Minecraft Diaries and a few others. What other things do I enjoy doing?: I play the piano (currently in Trinity Grade 4, sketch, sing, play videogames and generally enjoy socialising with people when I get the chance. Other than that, I enjoy annoying (and doting on) my mom, begging her to go out and enjoy new culinary experiences, and being a slight couch potato when I have time to think to myself. And now... ~ FANDOM-RELATED INFORMATION: Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff Patronus: Dragonfly What Harry Potter character would I be?: I would probably not end up being one specific character - I'd probably end up with Neville's heart, something similar to Luna's creativity, Hermione's intelligence and the rest of it... well, Ron Weasley, minus all the siblings. Percy Jackson cabin: Cabin 6, as expected - half of the time, though, I honestly thought it would be Cabin 11 or Cabin 14. What Riordanverse character would I be?: Like with the Harry Potter characters, definitely not a specific character. I'd have Annabeth's intelligence, Frank's sense of self, Magnus's sense of humor and Samirah's self-control. (I'd fill in more stuff, but I feel partially like I want to collapse from post-exam exhaustion.) Anyways, that's my introduction for now. I'll probably redo it later... maybe after a year or two. Up early for my trip to the Edinburgh Fringe: Part One. Yes I love the Fringe so much that this year I've decided one trip just won't be enough so I'm going up twice: the first time being today and tomorrow and then I'm going back up again on the 23rd and the 24th. I always stay at the same hostel when I'm in Edinburgh (except two years ago when I had a weird wheeze and didn't want the other hostel dwellers panicking thinking I had COVID so I splashed out on an £89 hotel room which is surprisingly cheap for a night in Edinburgh). After dumping my bag in the hostel I set off for a walk around the city and to head to my first show of the day: Ants. This was an absurdist comedy show about three office workers who are tasked with coming up with a way to increase productivity overnight of face termination. Problem is all three of them have blagged their way into their roles and have no idea what the company actually does or...what they do. This was a really funny show although I have to say not as abstract as I was expecting. Next up I went to see a play called The Booth which was a behind the scenes look at a live play being produced for the radio and the shenanigans the cast get up to, particularly one who has recently discovered the art of method acting and refuses to break character. I'll be honest I though this was going to be quite dark and depraved and that something shocking was going to happen at some point but it was just a campy comedy play and I wasn't really into it at all. Before my next show I decided to go for a walk around the area where the leafleters normally plug their shows and got given a few fliers and will try to post positive reviews of the shows advertised even if I don't see them because by my logic this means there's a better chance of them going back next year and more interest in the Fringe overall. I think it's probably a good thing that I'm not a reviewer at this festival because once words got out that I don't go to see all the shows I give positive reviews for people doing shows at the Fringe would give me fliers for the shows and then pray I didn't come to see it because if I didn't then they'd be guaranteed a good review. All someone would have to do would be to hand me a flier then have a sexy blonde member of the production team find me and flirt with me for an hour while the show is on so I can't go to see it and thus give them a positive review. Next up I went to see a show that was on just up the road from the hostel I was staying at called Bang which was a surreal monologue show delivered by the wife of William S Burroughs just after he shot her to death. I'm embarrassed to admit that I was falling asleep during the show not because it was boring but I because I always make the mistake of coming to the city as early as possible to pack in as many shows as I can. Luckily I managed to avoid nodding off and the performance was actually really good, the actresses delivery in particular was stunning as it was like she was in a trance of some kind which is appropriate since her character is newly dead and would be adjusting to what she has just been through. I'd like to see this again when I've had more than five hours sleep to give it a proper review. The final show of the day was Chokeslam a show by a very beautiful and charismatic Canadian actress guiding the audience through the history of pro wrestling and how it has effected her life. This was one of the best performances I've seen at the Fringe mainly due to the actresses passionate commitment to the story and the fact that there were only about five of us in the room so she didn't have to overact like people playing a large theatre have to. I may have to go back and see this again when I go back to Edinburgh on the 23rd because this show really put me in a good mood.

well the goal here is to make the tale of genji into actual history. that would implicate and fuck up the existing imperial lineage ig.

its soooo weird to see kasen being so friendly and vibing w his teammates bc usually he has a massive stick up him . he even lets ookurikara go his own separate way pursuing the shikigami (?) like???? thats a step up from the hostility theyd share n he's more trusting of kara in this honmaru.

its so cute how nansen and himetsuru call each other hime no aniki and nan-kun........ and nansen being taller than hime too. like an elegant elder sibling indulging the younger scruffier one.

hmmm so in GM the 'rainy night conversation' scene where genji and co. r dissecting what kind of woman would be the best to pursue takes place in hahakigi, literally the second chapter, and the opinions of women they put forth in the text r presented as worldly advice that spurs genji to realize that he loves fujitsubo, and in the long run, also shapes his motivations behind kidnapping wakamurasaki ("it is probably not a bad idea to take a wholly childlike, tractable wife and form her yourself as well you can"). while the entire thing does reek of misogyny its more nuanced and bealievable given that the characters justify their opinions w anecdotes (also very fucked up in their own right). guden sort of downplayed the nuance there by solely having genji, to-no-chuji et al focus on beauty and a few quick lines resembling a summary of one or two paragraphs of to-no-chujo. it serves its purpose but......i would have liked it to be a bit longer.....

OHHH MY GOD one of them says 「美しさは人を惑わせる」 / beauty leads people astray which is just like kasen saying 「美しさは兎角人を狂わせる」 / beauty tends to drive people to madness' in kiden. didnt realize my blog title could fit both sutes

*touken danshi roasting the misogynistic convo* this has so many layers bc. written by a woman -> story centred around a casanova -> adapted into a stage play for a franchise that only has male characters -> all of the roles are played by actresses

this kasen uses his hands while talking and its such an extrovert trait its throwing me off lol.

gyoukan: between the lines of the text vs honpen: main story. so gyoukan is the designated period where the people behind the roles of the characters of genji monogatari retain their original sense of self, while during honpen they completely become the characters n forget their real selves. so koshosho no kimi (one of murasaki shikubu's close friends) is the antagonistic empress mother of the tale, kokiden no nyogo.

hmmm i wonder what the mechanism that determines the turnover of gyoukan/honpen is. the touken danshi arrive in heian-kyo, and find the entire era under control of this dichotomous influence, but how did the hra even manage to pull off smth on this scale? and why even give leeway to the touken danshi to break this process by keeping the gyoukan as a loophole?

but actually id say gyoukan serves its purpose in expanding upon the finer aspects behind the work and working it into the narrative.

so murasaki shikibu's caught on to the fact that the novel's story should be destroyed to stop this historical aberration and passes the book onto koshosho no kimi's keeping and thats why shes been resisting the forced characterization even tho its honpen rn

koshosho hands three books to kasen. im glad they kept this little detail bc in fact genji monogatari is divided into three parts: the first two deal with the life of Genji and the last w two of Genji's prominent descendants, niou no miya and kaoru. theres much academic contention abt how much of the later chapters murasaki shikibu herself wrote, whether there were supposed to be more chapters, all the complications added from the fact that no original text exists etc etc but sute's understandably not involving itself w all that.

the poem that earns utsusemi her name in genji monogatari (just gonna shorten that to GM from now on) is: 'underneath this tree, where the molting cicada shed her empty shell / my longing still goes to her, for all i know her to be' referring to the kimono she leaves behind while escaping him. but the poem kasen recites is 'just as drops of dew settle on cicada wings, concealed in this tree / secretly, oh secretly, these sleeves are wet with my tears' which is actually utsusemi's own reply to genjis aforementioned poem in GM.

RARE kasen boke moment. at least he realized he shouldnt make utsusemi accept genjis advances for the sake of distorting GM's plot bc that would be against her wishes. consent > tentatively correcting history. rare W there. genji could never.

interesting moral conflict here...norimune and choumou would rather cut down petty things like consent for the greater good of protecting history.

ookurikara went on a solo mission to confront genji while the rest (all 5 of them) go witness utsusemis chapter. so their plan mutsve been to break apart the story by either distorting the women's part of the story, or killing genji himself. what kind of insane confidence did kasen have to let kara go on his own to kill genji lol. also whats with the uneven team distribution....

ironic that genji calls kara dekuningyou/ wooden puppet as an insult for a hollow and manipulated being bc at the end of the day isnt he also supposed to be bound by the story thats woven around him? yeah hes gained sentience now, but originally he existed inside the fourth wall, just like originally touken danshi used to be metal. but then again, this role-reversal has been brought about precisely so that his story will be recorded as reality, as his own actions, and that would make him better than sword puppets who will always be invisible and obedient toward the saniwa.

ive read a bit of murasaki shikibus diary + the context of it and the reason why people were so dissuasive of murasaki was bc she was keen on pursuing the chinese texts and those were, as a rule, male territory. while men concerned themselves w chinese characters, women wrote in kana, and . that is why the big fabric of script they use in guden has only kana on it !! bc its a tale by a women for women. 'The Tale of Genji’s readership too has been naturalized female, at times discussed as if women were the exclusive audience of the tale, not least because by Murasaki’s time in the Heian period fictional tales had long been identified as a generic category for women.' i like shikibus answer actually. it doesnt advocate for separatism of the 'man' and 'woman' binary, but shelters the motivations and flaws of characters under the umbrella of simply 'people'. ofc the book is a criticism of male whims and ofc guden does take it that way, but the motivations and fates of all characters cannot be put solely in the neat category of 'due to gender', bc in the end even the characters and ofc shikibu herself realize that this is how the wider society has molded them to be. so, it is 'a tale of people'

thatd mean touken danshi are outsiders with no relation or stakes in the tale, they are neither women who have loved/endured affairs, nor are they men that whimsically toy around in love. they are there to voice (ours, the audience's) morality.

so the logic used by th Nobody is: waka and poems are permissible bc they r expressions of the heart, but not prose that contains fiction, which is why writers like izumi shikibu and sei shonagon will be spared while murasaki shikibu will fall into hell. all out of respect for buddhist precepts. (mental note to translate shiotsuki shu's blog entry soon)

well either way, whether all this is true or not, its p clear that there have been exaggerations and unproved myths surrounding shikibu and GM all along, whether be for or against, so should another lie really make any difference in the grand scheme of things?

its the fact that everything was truly black and white until now history was history and GM was a story that was well liked until some guy came along, threw everything into chaos, managed to mix up actual existences with falsified ones, gave rise to incoherence in the story due to the existence of multiple genjis at the same time, with the sole hope that in the future some people would dig up his bones and recognize GM as a true story, but the only way to stop this contradiction is itself a contradiction: killing the main genji in kumogakure would indeed lift the altered existence of heian-kyo, but it would also accomplish his death which was what he hoped for in the first place. is this really then a plot with no holes?

all in all, i think the genji monogatari + jinbutsu storyline was pretty solid and did make for a gripping plot but the ending that the touken danshi chose troubles me to no end......ideally kara wouldve snatched genjis corpse and theyd have given him a proper cremation and theyd have pondered the same things they do after the hra take away genji

or what would also have been fun is kasen and kara realizing their altered stories were due to the government's tampering and thus letting go of genji was a conscious decision between two of them setting up for a nice kurikase / ichimonji-seifu dichotomy where they chose to remain true to themselves while the ichimonji willingly give their stories up and resign themselves to being mere tools

......plus the fact that none of them ever mentioned smth like hope to see you in another sute work! in the curtain call...........aaaa it's too sad

Drama Accountability Pinned Post!

EDITED December 10, 2024: Hello! Thank you for landing here. This blog is devoted mostly to Asian drama and movie reviews and meta analyses, along with your random fashion post and maybe a floating meditation on parenting along the way. This pinned post will help me keep track of where my scattered brain is at with what I’m watching, what I want to watch, and what I have watched.

My major focus regarding dramas is in completing what I’m calling the Old GMMTV Challenge (OGMMTVC), where I’m learning about the young history of Thai BLs through an expansive list of GMMTV and non-GMMTV dramas, to learn about the genre’s fumbles and improvements, as recommended by @absolutebl in their original post on the topic. I’m also inspired to learn about the development of Thai BL as an art form, complete with tropes, frameworks, and responsive commentaries, as described by @miscellar in an analysis post on Bad Buddy the Series. 

I’m also catching up in general with other classic and/or essential QLs of all other Asian countries, reviews of which you can check out on this tag. 

I tend to go down actor/actress rabbitholes when I’ve watched a drama of theirs that I have fallen in love with; I don’t always watch things chronologically; I LOVE SHOWS ABOUT FOOD AND/OR COCKTAILS, and I’m still new to Tumblr fandoms. But this is my space to absolutely just dump and analyze thoughts, so please, welcome, and thank you for reading!

Gen comes from a very rich family, she’s never needed Jared’s money. It’s also not Jared who gets her all of her business connections but Charlie Capen who has been working with Gen for years.

Gen has her own career outside of Jared. I know a lot of tinhatters and wife antis like to paint her as a failed actress, but she was actually pretty successful before retiring to be home with her children. Not counting Supernatural, a role she got herself and didn’t force her husband to have written for her like Danneel did, Gen worked consistently up until she started having children. Which is how you can tell she actually retired because of her children, unlike Danneel who used motherhood to cover up the fact that no one wanted to hire her. She preformed in four theater productions, appeared in at least one movie per year from 2004-2007, was the lead in Wildfire which ran for 4 seasons (2005-2008) and had a small cult following, was a recurring character on abc’s Flashforward (2009, it only ran for one season, but it did win an Emmy), and her final project was being a lead in the movie Hated (2012) which won several awards at various film festivals. And while she might not be the strongest actress (I personally like her acting, something about it evokes 1960s, slightly campy starlet), she did care enough about her craft to go to school for acting (graduated from NYU Tisch School of Arts with a BA in English and a BFA in Drama). She did an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in 2020 about reprising Ruby for the final season, and she talked about preparing to to return by reading her old scripts from season 4, looking at her old acting notes and prepping with Jared before filming. She did more work to appear on one episode than Jensen did to create the prequel. And while her role on Walker was technically because of Jared, Anna Fricke was the one who proposed the idea and Gen was very open about how she got the role the moment it was announced she was cast. No pretending she got the role on her own merit like Danneel did with that whole Sister Jo/Anael travesty.

Instead of sitting around spending Jared’s money like tinhats want her to (I’m serious, I’ve had the misfortune of seeing a few posts and they’re all lamenting why can’t she just be a good beard like Danneel and just quietly spend her husbands money. Lot to unpack there) she wanted a little bit of independence and to contribute to the household. So she started blogging because it meant that she could still be at home with her children while working. Jared doesn’t pay for her ads or her magazine interviews because that’s not how business works. Charlie Capen helps manage Gen’s blog and gets her these ad deals, writers for Towwn and helps her with networking. She’s not coasting by on Jared’s name, she just working and shares Jared’s last name because they’re married. Has Jared promoted her? Of course, he’s her husband and wants to support her. He’s also promoted his sister’s books, yet no one labels his sister a leech. In fact Gen’s instagram didn’t even have her last name for the first few years, she changed it when the trend of usernames ended and most influencers just started going by their legal names.

Gen might have a nanny to help with the kids, but almost every mom would if they could afford it. Raising children really does take a village. And it’s clear that both Jared and Gen spend a ton of time with their children and as a family unit despite having a nanny or two. Unlike Danneel, who hasn’t shied away from how much she dumps her children on the nanny even during a pandemic and sent them to school prior to vaccines because they just couldn’t deal with them anymore. Imagine living in a huge mansion, your only job being a stay at home mom, having a nanny take care of your children most of the time, the resources to hire private tutors for your children so that they can stay safe and you don’t have to play school teacher, and still saying “hmm, I’m seeing too much of my children. Better send them off to school so that I don’t have to deal with them for the hour a day I pretend to be a hands on mother.”

The long and short of it is, Danneel wishes that she was half the woman that Gen is. Gen is her own person who happens to be married to a very famous man, a man that she loves and supports at every turn.

Nathan’s declaration rang deep and raw. Sincerity dragged his tone ragged.

There wasn’t a glimmer of mischief or even disdain in his expression. Instead of the usual flippancy of their scheme, there was something serious and intense in Nathan’s gaze as he leaned in. Although he was unreadable as always, something about him made Victoria’s spine stiffen and her pulse jump. There was a slight furrow in his forehead — not a frown of displeasure, but from the desperation of his confession weighing down his brows. The warmth of his hand enveloped her face, then she couldn’t see anything but his eyes, dark as coffee and just as mesmerizing.

Every breath grazed across Victoria’s face as he leaned in. Closer, closer, and closer until she could feel the heat radiating off him——

Then he was gone.

One moment, she could see her stunned reflection in his eyes and she was staring at his retreating form the next.

“I— what?”

“He’s gone,” he said, tossing it over his shoulder.

Victoria blinked.

“Your ex-boyfriend?” Nathan prompted, pausing and twisting around to raise an eyebrow at her. All of the tenderness and conviction in him was gone, replaced by an annoyed curve of his eyebrows. “That was doubting our engagement just now…? Don’t tell me you’ve already forgotten.”

It was like someone dumped ice cold water all over Victoria. Right. Ex-boyfriend. Her ex-boyfriend that showed up and nearly ruined all of their carefully set up engagement scheme by questioning everything. That happened.

For a moment, she thought——

“You didn’t think that was real did you?”

Blazing heat flooded Victoria’s face. No. No, no, no, no, no , no, no. Never in a thousand years. Not with him, the most infuriating, maddening, irritating thorn jabbing incessantly into her side. She never thought that it could be real, and that certainly wasn’t where her interrupted thought was leading.

“No! Of course not!” Indignation and embarrassment amplified her voice until it was almost a shout. “Why would anyone believe that ever? You’re terrible at acting.”

“Well, obviously it was good enough for him to believe it, or at least get off our backs for now.” Nathan turned around with an unrepentant shrug.

Was that a huge relief, or a massive slight? Her heart was still racing, even as she took several deep breaths to slow it down.

“Either you’re a much better actress than I thought, or you’re the worst actress ever,” Nathan added, unable to simply let things lie. He was probably — no, he was definitely doing it on purpose. “You really looked like you believed it.”

“I did not!”

“Worst actress ever then,” he concluded, completely ignoring her protests. “You know, you should really work on that. Take some acting lessons or something. No wonder you’re so bad at your job — detectives need to be able to commit to a performance.”

Oh, Victoria was going to kill him someday. She didn’t know when or how, but somehow, this fake relationship was going to end with Nathan Howard dead. And it would be fine; she didn’t need his help to solve this goddamn murder case because she was a much better detective than he was.

But for now, all she could do was seethe as he calmly walked away, somehow unbothered by everything.

She didn’t believe that confession was real. It was just to maintain their cover.

She really didn’t.
